China’s One Child Policy Dose Good to All

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

As a developing country with a large population, China is under the policy of “one child for one family”. This policy is good for the whole society. Only children can be provided with better living conditions, more opportunities for better education and one hundred percent of parents’ love.      When it comes to parents, this policy has sharply decreased the burden of raising children. They can pay more attention to their career; enjoy more time for entertainment and save more money for their old age.      What’s more, for Chinese society, this policy means more resources , on average, can be available for each person.        All in all, under the current circumstances, China’s one child policy is good for every aspect of our society.

Euthanasia Is Humane

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

u3360230715428689684gp12.jpg      In the early 1950s, in Hillsboro Country Hospital, a 60-year-old woman was dying of cancer. There was no chance for recovery. Suffering from extreme pain, she wasted away from 140 pounds to 80 pounds. Every time when others came near her bed, she would beg them to help her to die. Dr. Herman. N. Sanders, her doctor- in-charge, found there was little he could do to ease her suffering. So he decided to help his patient out by giving her four lethal injections of air. The old lady died in ten minutes, painlessly and peacefully. This is the most famous euthanasia case in American history.

u20223670511556026778gp48.jpgEuthanasia, helping to release patients like this old lady from unbearable pain, is also called voluntary suicide or mercy killing. It’s not only reasonable, but also humane.

u21142814624104563072gp6.jpg Death should not be viewed as a failure, but as a normal and natural stage of life. People have the right to die. Death is as natural as birth. Both of them sometimes are hard processes requiring assistance. There is no need to artificially maintain life beyond the point when people can never regain consciousness.

Appraise My New Campus and the Old

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Since I unpacked on the new campus, now and then, people would ask me the same question:“Between the old and the new campus, which one do you prefer?” However, my answer varied from time to time. As I get more familiar with the new environment, I get to know more about its merits and short-comings. And the same feeling goes for the old campus, too. The two are violently different. Differences lie mainly in two aspects:

Most obviously, the locations have great influence on the two respectively, especially the influence comes from their different surroundings. It won’t take more than one yuan to get to the city centre from the old campus. But it does take me five time the money plus two hours’ travel from the new. Outside the new campus, there are no super malls or shopping centers, which are all available around the old campus. Indeed, what come into sight are big mountains and dusty roads there.200611171768683.jpg(this is the new)

The thing I misses most is the plants the old has. And it’s very strange that no matter what plant our new campus puts into the soil, it dies before long.

However, the on-campus condition is much more better than that of the old one. New buildings, classrooms, more advanced facilities and delicately designed gardens with man-made rivers, all these components provide us a beautiful environment to study and live in. Moreover, the dormitories are better furnished on the new campus. We have TV sets, washing rooms and neatly tiled floors, none of which is available in an old dorm.

Through the appraisal and comparison, I find a balance. Sometimes, I will complain about the isolated environment I am staying in. And always, the environment does isolate us from the outside and blocks information to reach us. Frankly speaking, as a unsatisfactory person, I’d like to live in the new dorms that locates on our old campus. Woo, day-dreaming, isn’t it?

Three Dies, Thirty One Injured in Carrefour, Chongqing

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Nov. 9 is the tenth anniversary of the Carrefour super mall.  To celebrate the big day, the mall brought out series of sales-offs. On the second day of its celebration, people flooded into the shopping mall. The whole market was overly clogged. And the situation went bad enough as to lead to injuries.

071110109fa_3.jpg      On Nov. 10, people hearing about the sales gathered toward the Carrefour Mall of Shapinba district, early in the morning, waiting for its opening. Around 8:00 A.M, the long-waiting crowd rushed into the mall as the door opened. During the pushes and rush, several people got hurt.  1110_228075.jpg    In the sales promotion, the rap oil, which is about 57 yuan usually, was sold at a surprisingly low price– only 39.9 yuan. People formed a long queue before the mall opend. Moreover, the mall was opend 5 minutes before its regular opening time because of the impulse of the crazy comsumers.  w020071111343802343235.jpg      Tragically, the sales promotion led to 3 death and 31 injured, with 24 still in hospital till now.

Disobedience Makes Progress(2)

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Disobedient giants exist not only in scientists and tycoons, but also politicians. All of the great politicians possess the potential of rebellion. Take Martin Luther King Jr. for example. He was discontent with the fact that the whole society held a discrimination towards black people. Being desperate for fair treatment of his race, King led marches, made speeches and promoted strikes. Although he’d been put into jail several times, he never gave up struggling until the government agreed to make laws to protect the black. Now, every third Monday in January, Americans celebrate King’s birth to remind themselves of the disobedient hero.

In China, the General Designer of Modern Construction, Deng Xiaoping, is also a disobedient leader. He renovated the routine of developing a republican country. Deng broke the rule that all companies in China should be state-owned. He made China opened up to the world, encouraged private enterprises to compete and spared no effort to attract foreign investment. Deng’s innovative method of developing helped China to take on a new look.

Disobedience whips up innovation and creation. Looking through the history, we can see that we were benefiting from disobedience. And it will continue to be beneficial.

Disobedience Makes Progress(1)

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Oscar Wild says” disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made.” This remark has been proved thousands of times in history. Time and time again, disobedience caused troubles. However, it also brought about inventions, liberation and even now eras.

Great scientists and successful entrepreneurs are always famous for their disobedience. Most scientific inventions are inspired by disobedience. Courageous scientists challenged authorities to find a way out of the recognized wrong theories.

One vivid illustration is Galileo who rebelled against the Catholic belief and declared that the earth runs around the sun. He claimed that it is the sun rather than the earth that is the core of the universe. His theory blew the leaves of astronomy and has won him ever-lasting fame in the world.

Another disobedient giant is the head of the Microsoft computer company– Bill Gates. His rebellious characteristic was revealed when he was a teenager. Dropping out of school, Gates was planning to start his own business. Neither his parents nor teachers agreed with his decision. Even his close friends didn’t believe he would succeed. However, Gates and his company made these voices of distrust die out. The brave innovative
US computer programmer is famous for being the richest man in the world.

Life Styles in North and South

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Because of great differences in climate, people in the North lead a quite different life from those in the South. The southern people have hotter and longer summers, and their winters are warmmer and moister than the northern’s. Therefore, they enjoy night life very much, because it’s too hot to go out in during the day time.

In contrast, nights in the north are much more peaceful and quiet. People prefer to stay indoors and go to bed early. And the southerns don’t like living in a house facing south, while the northerns do , because sunshine in the north is quite limited in winter.

Problems Arise before My Birthday

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

It’s always troublesome, from the first minute we moved into the new campus, far far away from the down town, for us to have any form of entertainment, except hiking and mountain climbing. Problems arise several days before my birthday.

Well, wanting to have a get-together with my friends on the very day, I decided to invited them to KTV to have a good night. But, things turned out to be not so smooth going as I thought. Some have to attend their optional courses, some have been engaged into certain meetings, and others are not sure whether they will be able to catch the bus after they finish the last class on that day.

Gosh~! What’s the matter? Is this all my college life is about? It’s even so hard for us to have a party! You know, when we were freshmen, we did those kind of thing frequently, say it’s too often may be more adequate. How about now??

OK. The RMB10 yuan cost may not be the biggest problem, but the over two-hour travelling is.   You know what am I thinking of now?   —- Bombing up the so called new campus!
